The short answer, what Nutribl can and cannot offer, and what private label clients selling into Halal markets need to know.

The short answer

Nutribl does not offer Halal-certified products and does not arrange Halal certification, even on custom manufacturing runs. The majority of our stock formulas are vegan and therefore contain no animal-derived ingredients, but that is not the same thing as being Halal-certified. If you need Halal-certified products for your range, you will need to arrange certification independently.

This article explains the distinction, what private label clients can and cannot legitimately claim on their labels, and how to approach selling into Halal markets if that is your target audience.

Vegan vs Halal-certified - they are not the same

A vegan supplement contains no animal-derived ingredients. Most observant Muslims would consider a fully vegan product to be free of the ingredients most commonly excluded by Halal dietary rules (pork derivatives, alcohol-derived ingredients, animal-source gelatine, and so on). That makes vegan products a practical choice for clients selling to Halal-conscious consumers.

However, "vegan" and "Halal-certified" are different things:

  • Vegan is a factual descriptor about ingredients. A product is vegan if it contains no animal-derived ingredients. Nutribl can confirm vegan status by SKU.
  • Halal-certified is a formal certification awarded by a recognised Halal certifying body (such as the Halal Food Authority, HMC, or equivalent bodies in other markets) after they have audited the ingredients, the manufacturing process, the supply chain, and the cleaning protocols against their standards. Nutribl does not hold any Halal certifications.

Some Halal certifying bodies will only certify products manufactured in facilities with dedicated Halal protocols (segregated lines, dedicated cleaning, audit access). Nutribl’s manufacturing partners are not set up for this, which is why we do not offer the service.

What private label clients can legitimately claim

This is where many clients run into trouble, so it is worth being clear.

You can claim:

  • "Suitable for vegans" - if the product is genuinely vegan. Nutribl can confirm by SKU.
  • "Plant-based" - if accurate to the formula.
  • "Contains no animal-derived ingredients" - if accurate.
  • Factual descriptions of the ingredients themselves (e.g. "with magnesium glycinate from plant-based sources").

You cannot claim:

  • "Halal" or "Halal-certified" on the label or in marketing for a non-certified product. The word "Halal" carries a regulatory meaning to consumers and using it without certification is misleading.
  • "Halal-friendly" - this sounds softer but carries the same risk. UK consumer protection law treats misleading claims about product characteristics as unlawful regardless of how the claim is qualified.
  • The Halal symbol or any certifying body’s logo without their authorisation.

Borderline territory - handle with care:

Some clients use wording such as "Suitable for those following a vegan or vegetarian diet - please contact your own certifying body if you require formal Halal certification." This is a factual statement and a redirect, rather than a Halal claim. It is more honest than "Halal-friendly" but is still worth checking against the rules of the specific market you are selling into - different jurisdictions have different thresholds for what constitutes a Halal-related claim.

If you are unsure whether your proposed wording is compliant, email design@nutribl.com to discuss before finalising your label.

If you specifically need Halal-certified products

If your business model requires Halal-certified products - for example, you are selling primarily into observant Muslim markets, you are listing on platforms or retailers that require certification, or your brand positioning is explicitly Halal - Nutribl is not the right supplier for those specific SKUs. You will need to either:

  • Source those products from a supplier that holds Halal certification, or
  • Arrange your own certification through a recognised body, working with a manufacturer that meets their requirements.

For other products in your range that do not require certification, our standard stock formulas remain available, and vegan SKUs may still be appropriate for your audience as a non-certified option.

Checking the status of a specific product

If you want to confirm whether a specific Nutribl SKU is vegan (and therefore suitable as a non-certified option for Halal-conscious customers), the simplest route is:

  • Search the SKU on www.nutribl.com - vegan status is shown on most product pages.
  • Email design@nutribl.com or hello@nutribl.com with the SKU if you need formal confirmation in writing for your records.
