If you wish to create your own label designs then we are happy for you to do so. Below is a list of requirements we have for the label files you provide. At the bottom of this article you will also find attached:

  • The Nutribl guide to Food Supplement labelling regulatory requirements (advisory only and based on Nutribl's interpretation)
  • A template pdf to show the format of each label size.
  • A zip file containing blank editable label files for you to use as the basis for your designs. We have provided one version of each size as both a *.psd file and a pdf-s. The psd files can be used in Photoshop and the pdf-s should be useable in other images editors such as Illustrator, Indesign, Coreldraw and many others.
  • Video Tutorial on how to use the black templates and check your label sizes and format.

** IMPORTANT** - the 2mm bleed area highlighted in the example files and the video is background space - this should be the SAME colour(s) as your label background. That area may or may not get printed depending on how the label aligns and is there to ensure full-colour print right to the edge of the label.

Please take some time to read and understand the instructions below as we will not be able to upload files that have been delivered to us incorrectly.

1. FILE FORMAT - we need the files as jpg. We don’t use pdf for our print files as they take up too much space on our servers, and there is no discernible difference in print quality between jpg and pdf. Please name each label file using the correct SKU as detailed in the label text file (downloadable word document found on the 'Label Info' tab of each product page).

2. RESOLUTION - the files should be 600dpi to ensure optimal print quality - especially on complex designs. We can accept 300 dpi as a minimum for print.

3. BORDER SPACE & BLEED - there should be a 2mm back border between the end of the label content and the edge of the label to ensure text does not get cut off when printing. For most label formats, you should add a further 2mm bleed to your label. A bleed is an extra area added to the edge of your label design to prevent white margins from appearing at the edge of your label (especially if you are printing full colour). The bleed is indicated in the attached 'All Label Templates' pdf. For example, for labels 60x76, any content such as text should be within a space of 58x74 to ensure it doesn't get cut-off - so 2mm in from the edge. The total file size should be 64x80 to ensure that there is a 2mm bleed so that if we are printing full colour we can ensure your background prints right to the edge of the label.

4. BACKGROUND - We strongly advise a light-coloured background for efficiency and print quality.

5. SEPARATE FILES - our flat postal pack bottles require two labels per product -  a front and a back label. In these cases, we need the label files supplied as two individual files - one for the front label and one for the back label.

6. BORDERS - you can have borders on your labels if you wish. However, please be aware that the printer we use is essentially a high-spec inkjet – we use Epson C8000 printers. As such, the labels may not line up exactly each time. If slight variation in border placement/thickness is something that will frustrate you, then you may prefer not to use borders in your label design.

7. COLOUR - Although our printers print from CMYK, the work best printing from an RGB colour space file. RGB files will provide the closest colour print match to your designs.

8. SIZES - the flat mail pack bottles come in three different sizes and require two different label files per product. The round cylinder bottles (powders and gummies) only require one label which wraps around the bottle. Please double check which size your product requires. On the private label product website for each page, there is a label text file which includes the label size for that particular product. The label files we receive should be the following sizes with an additional 4mm bleed (2mm on each edge, ensuring your design fits inside the blue line shown on the label template file attached as a guide):

- 150ml Flat Postals: 60mm x 76mm at 600dpi

- 200ml Flat Postals: 65mm x 110mm at 600dpi

- 320ml Flat Postals: 84mm x 140mm at 600dpi

- 150ml Round PET Bottle: 140mm x 60mm at 600dpi. This is a wrap-around label and should be landscape.

- 200ml / 250ml / 300ml Round PET Bottle: 180mm x 66mm at 600dpi. This is a wrap-around label and should be landscape.

- 400ml / 500ml Round PET Bottle: 215mm x 80mm at 600dpi. This is a wrap-around label and should be landscape.

- 1000ml Round Pont (Collagen Powder): 200mm x 100mmat 600dpi. This is a wrap-around label and should be landscape.

- 300ml Headstand Bottle. 50mm x 78mm at 600dpi. This is a curved bottom label see diagram on text file.

9. LABEL TEXT - Label text files can be found on the private label product pages for each product - they are a downloadable Word document found near the bottom of the 'Label Info' tab. This will have all of the product information you need, such as ingredients, instructions and cautions etc. The best-before date and batch number are printed on the base of each bottle during manufacture so you should include a sentence on your label to indicate the presence of these. It is a regulatory requirement to put your own business details on the label somewhere - it's important your customers can contact you and re-order easily - a phone number, email and web address are all good things to put on. By law, you only actually need 'the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or EC seller' - in other words, your business name and address. You should also have the words 'Food Supplement' written somewhere on every product.

10. CAUTIONS - we provide suggested cautions/allergy warnings in the label text files. Some of the cautions lists are fairly long and sometimes we are asked if they can be cut down. We would strongly recommend including all suggested allergy warnings. After that, the only cautions that are legally required are:

  • a warning not to exceed the stated recommended daily dose;
  • a statement to the effect that food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet;
  • a statement to the effect that the product should be stored out of the reach of young children.

Attached is a supplement label summary that you should familiarise yourself with when completing your label designs. Remember you and your business are responsible for the accuracy of your own label content.

11.  **CLAIMS** - You should be very mindful about any health claims you put on labels. Please read this article carefully to give you support and guidance on claims.

We deal in food supplements - not medicinal products. Any health claims made on products should include approved health claims for ingredients within the product only. If you make claims other than these, you risk having your products classed as medicinal by the MHRA and removed from the market.

We have also attached a health claims guide for reference but the best way to get the most up-to-date is via the commission website. The legislation is regularly updated with newly authorised health claims subject to individual application submitted pursuant to Article 13(5) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. The easiest way is to use the search function - make sure you select authorised in the top bar.

12. BARCODES -  Not a requirement but you may find the following useful. We get our barcodes from GS1 which is a yearly subscription. if you prefer to buy a few at a time you can use a service such as https://barcodesmania.co.uk

If you are planning on using Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA) they do require barcodes which can be incorporated into your label design or added as an additional small label later. You can get these barcodes from your Amazon account once you have set up your products in Amazon.

13. NAMING YOUR LABEL FILES You will find on the label text file the product SKU and details on how to name your label files. For example; product Ashwagandha KSM-66 500mg 90 Capsules will have 2 x labels one for the front and one for the back. They should be sent to us named as PL-463$front and PL-463$back. If they are not named correctly we will not be able to upload them to your Nutribl account.

There is a fair amount of information here so please go through it carefully and if you have any questions then let us know before you make a start. We would recommend when you have finished your first product label that you email it to us, and we can check it is OK and can do a test print if you wish.

Upload and Approval of Labels

To have your labels uploaded to your account, please send them to [email protected]

Once they have been uploaded, you will receive an email asking you to log in to your account to approve the files on our system. You will need to do this for the files to activate and become available for your orders.
