If using 5HTP capsules to help you sleep then the best time to take them is 30-45 minutes before you go to bed. Ideally this would be done as part of a relaxing pre bedtime wind down routine. In the lead up to bedtime:

  • Don't use blue light devices (smartphones and TVs) - these suppress the production of melatonin which is vital for sleep. 
  • Try and relax before bed - having a bath or shower can help relax you and get your body to an optimum temperature for sleep.
  • Spend a little time relaxing before you head to sleep to help your body and mind wind down.
  • 30-45 minutes before to bed take your 5HTP supplement.

For anyone already taking medication or under medical supervision always consult your health practitioner before taking nutritional supplements. 5HTP should not be used by those taking serotonin increasing medication (such as antidepressants) and it is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women.
